Paluwagan Planner: Payouts, Schedule and Which Slot to Pick

Set the number of members, the hulog and how often you pay. See the pot, when each member gets it, who is borrowing and who is lending, and how much is at risk in every slot if someone stops paying.

A paluwagan pays no interest — everyone puts in and takes out the same total. The comparison uses BanKo TODO Savings at 5% a year, after the 20% tax on interest.

How often?
Your payout · slot 1 of 10
₱10,000

You get the pot on month 1 and put in ₱1,000 every month for 10 rounds — ₱10,000 in total, about 10 months from start to finish.

You're borrowing, interest-freeYou receive ₱9,000 more than you've paid in, and repay it over the next 9 rounds. Your job: never miss a hulog — the members after you depend on it.
Money at risk before your turn₱0Paid in by you and already given to earlier slots. Slot 10 carries the most: ₱9,000.
Versus saving it in BanKo TODO Savings+₱153Getting the pot early is worth this much more than saving the same hulog yourself. The interest difference is small — trust and timing matter more.
Make it safer: write down the members, amounts, order and dates and confirm them in the group chat; record every hulog; give early slots to members with steady income. For your emergency fund, use an insured account instead — see digital bank rates.

How to read it

  • Early slots get an interest-free advance and repay it over the remaining rounds. Good for a planned expense that can't wait.
  • Late slots are lending to the group. They wait longest and carry the most risk, but it works like forced saving.
  • The interest difference is small. In the example, the last slot gives up only a little versus a bank. The real cost of a paluwagan is the risk that someone stops paying.

Paluwagan or savings account?

Use a paluwagan for discipline or a dated goal like tuition, a padala or Pasko. Keep your emergency fund in a PDIC-insured account, and if you need cash fast, compare the true cost first with the Loan True Cost Checker. Frequently asked questions

What is a paluwagan?

A paluwagan is an informal savings circle. A group agrees on an amount and a schedule; every round each member puts in the same amount, and one member takes the whole pot, in an agreed order, until everyone has had a turn. No interest is paid: everyone puts in and takes out the same total.

Which slot is the best in a paluwagan?

It depends on what you need. Early slots get the pot first — an interest-free advance you pay back over the remaining rounds. Late slots are effectively lending to the group: they wait the longest and carry the most risk if someone stops paying, but they are forced to save. The interest difference is small; the real difference is risk and timing.

What is the biggest risk in a paluwagan?

A member who already received the pot stops paying ("tumakbo"). Then the members after them get less than they put in. Paluwagan contributions are not insured like bank deposits, so the protection is trust, a reliable organizer and a written agreement.

How do I run a safer paluwagan?

Keep the group to people you know well, write down the members, amounts, schedule and order, and have everyone sign or confirm it in a group chat. Use a trusted organizer and record every payment. Give early slots to members with stable income, keep the amount at what everyone can afford, and agree in advance what happens if someone is late.

Is a paluwagan better than a savings account?

For pure saving, a PDIC-insured digital bank pays interest and keeps your money safe; a paluwagan pays none and depends on trust. A paluwagan helps with discipline and gives early slots money sooner. Many people do both: paluwagan for a planned big expense, and a high-yield account for their emergency fund.

Educational tool only. A paluwagan is an informal arrangement between members; it is not a deposit, is not insured, and is not regulated. Only join groups you trust, and never one that promises returns or asks you to recruit members.
